Nineteenth Century Club Goes Green
The Nineteenth Century Club
as a service to our communities sponsors
different GO GREEN projects for our members & neighbors!
A main part of our GO GREEN effort has been to partner with other community organizations and assist them with their efforts. Another focus has been to carefully screen the recycling agencies to assure that they are recycling responsibly.
Wondering where you can donate things you can no longer use, but that might just make a real difference in the life of another person? We look for ways to provide additional recycling opportunities for our community and surrounding communities. In fact, some people have driven from both the northern and southen suburbs to take advantage of our computer recycling.
The Club features different causes-you only have to bring the item(s) for that month to the Club and members of the Club will get them to the proper organization. Our central location at 178 Forest Avenue in Oak Park, with office hours of 9 a.m. to 12 Noon (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) and convenient parking make this an easy location for you to drop off these items.

We have partnered, since 2007, with PC Rebuilders and Recyclers, Home of the Computers for Schools Foundation in Chicago. They accept all computers and computer related equipment, which means anything that you can plug into a computer, plus fax machines and cell phones. Every hard drive received at their facility undergoes a thorough data removal process which eliminates all personal and confidential information. They provide schools, not-for-profit organizations and homes of children-at-risk with quality refurbished computers including service for those computers. All computer equipment not used or prepared for reuse are recycled in a manner meeting or exceeding local, state and federal regulations, supporting both their mission and the environment. |

The Nineteenth Century Club of Oak Park in now in its third century of making a difference in our community. Members have marched so that women could vote; established and still fund local social organizations that exist today; established and still fund scholarships for the local high school-these are just a few of the volunteer things we do.
We welcome and appreciate your support in furthering our efforts to make a "green" difference in the world. Please feel free to share this information with friends, relatives and other organizations. Our own Social Welfare Group knits and sews hundred of layettes and baby items which are donated to local groups including Hephzibath Children's Home Assn., Loyola Hospital, Near West Crisis Preganacy Center, Oak Park-River Forest Day Nursery, Parent-Child Community Wellness Center and Salvation Army Emergency Center (in 2005 they went to Hurricane Katrina babies). Interested in participating? Contact the Club.
Note: A caption under a photo in Oak Leaves in 2009 indicated that we benefited from our Go Green program; this is a misprint. Other charitable organizations (and, of course, the environment) benefit from our Go Green efforts.
If making a difference in your community interests you, we invite you to consider membership in our historic organization.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF OUR "GO GREEN" INITIATIVE
MEMBERS - PLEASE REMEMBER TO SAVE ALL OF THE ABOVE ITEMS TO DONATE AT THE CLUB
