Remembering Marshall Field's - Social Science

12:30 Gathering and Club Information

NO lunch - Program begins at 1:00 p.m. with High Tea to follow

The public is invited to the free opening program of The Nineteenth Century Club. We will also present our 2010 Grant awards and our Past Presidents will be honored.

This lavishly illustrated talk by historian Leslie Goddard traces the history of Marshall Field's from its beginnings as a dry good store in 1852 into a world-class fashion and service trendsetter. Photographs, ads, postcards, menus, and memorabilia trace cherished traditions - from chicken pot pie and the Walnut Room Christmas tree to legendary window displays, their innovations such as registries, personal shoppers, escalators, book signings and, of course, Frango Mints.
